choices the students have."

JenW says, "I like the number buttons for each task step"

DavidBoi says, "No...this is only fair classroom use."

DavidBoi says, "Thanks...I wanted to create an active page so kids were
involved with the page...it was not static, but active to keep their attention
and interest."

DavidBoi says, "Moreover, the learning strategies included writing,
research, organiztion, computer use, Internet use, group cooperation, and
probably more..."

JenW asks, "I am doing the same kind of quest with Around the World in
80 days...may I borrow some of your ideas??"

PhilipAB exclaims, "I can see why this WebQuest really requires a fast net
connection. The resources are all high-powered sites in their own rights!"

DavidBoi exclaims, "Of course you can borrow..that's why I spent so much
time creating it!"

SueMR exclaims, "I would like to borrow the ideas and apply it to a
Canadian quest!"

DavidBoi says, "The only issue is the longevity of the links. Some links
may be no longer available. However, there are so many selections, the
students should have no trouble finding something they can use."

PhilipAB asks, "Yes, you really have a lot of links there. My students would
get lost, I think! How many hours does it take students to complete these
tasks?"

SueMR says, "That was my question."

DavidBoi says, "Be careful..you may need to have lots of preparation in
capturing images, and moving them onto MS Word. Also, you may want to
use this with students who are somewhat familiar with MS Word and
using Internet resources."

PhilipAB [WebTeach] nods...

PhilipAB says, "My guess is that it would require upwards of 10-20 hours
of student time to complete..."

DavidBoi says, "That's hard to say....some classes may a few days...some
a week. The set up is important...the better preparation, the easier it will
be for the students. They should get into it...it's fun"

BJB [HelpDesk] cheers...Bernie just connected

JenW says, "David -- I think your project/quest is great"

DavidBoi says, "Yes,aboutone week for Middle School....less for High
School. This would be a great project for Geography, History,
Composition..."

BJB exclaims, "although you are all doing a great job without him!"

PhilipAB asks, "David, when you say a week, do you mean a week of one
hour a day lessons?"

DavidBoi says, "Hi Bernie, from Rosemarie Bernier--she has to go to a
meeting but will seeat the ll see you"

BJB . o O ( Bernie is still in his office )
DavidBoi says, "at the CSLA Conference in two days...."

PhilipAB [WebTeach] thinks this is a great WebQuest, but wonders about
the mechanics of putting it into practice.

DavidBoi says, "I don't know...I want someone to test it to let me know...."

PhilipAB asks, "David, you mean you haven't actually used it with students
yet?"

DavidBoi says, "I think it would work from previous experience ...but I sure
there are some bugs I have to consider."

DavidBoi asks, "I just created it....do you accept the challenge?"

PhilipAB says, "I'm very interested, but I'm afraid it may need some
adaptation for my kids here in France."

DavidBoi says, "Of course, you'll have to change the location...say from
Paris to ?? ...and drop the boat...."

DavidBoi asks, "You can also use trains, bikes....or?"

PhilipAB says, "No, since I teach English, I'd keep all the content, but I'd
have to add some heavy-duty scaffolding."

PhilipAB says, "Kids here are fascinated with California."

DavidBoi exclaims, "Tbat's right...and the kids will learn my doing!!!!"

PhilipAB [WebTeach] smiles

DavidBoi says, "So...get some California maps and go for it... the
WebQuest can be a final project after some extensive lessons on
California geopgraphy and history...."

SueMR says, "Students here in Canada also romanticize California."

PhilipAB says, "I'm going to have to get to bed now (1.40 AM) but I'll catch

the archives. I bet Bernie was planning on a later hour."

DavidBoi asks, "I wonder why California has such appeal....TV?"

DavidBoi says, "Thanks Philip....nice talking to you...keep in
touch...dboin1@lausd.k12.ca.us"

PhilipAB [WebTeach] wonders if there are any Route 66 travel
WebQuests...

SueMR says, "I just came back from Palm Desert and I spent a good 20
minutes fielding questions about LA from ESL students."

DavidBoi says, "I think there is..check Bernie's WebQuest Page...."

SueMR says, "Students watch American TV. Our Canadian talent goes
down to California."

PhilipAB says, "Sue, TV is a lot of it, IMO, but there is a lot of cultural
mythology around California, at least here in Europe."

PhilipAB says, "A bientot."
PhilipAB [WebTeach] has disconnected.

DavidBoi says, "Some of the mythology is based on reality..some only
fiction. The WebQuest might sort it all out."

SueMR says, "How is California regarded by your students"

SueMR says, "good point"

DavidBoi says, "Some of the mythology is based on reality..some only
fiction. The WebQuest might sort it all out."

SueMR says, "au revoir"

DavidBoi says, "Good night everyone...the Media Center is closing....have
a great week. Write me for more ideasand I'll get some good ones from
you, too."

BJB says, "thanks, David"

DavidBoi says, "David Boin--dboin1@lausd.k12.ca.us"
DavidBoi has disconnected.
