ApplicabilityCould be applied to any election in the past or near future, real or hypothetical.
LimitationsSince an essential component of this design is information about each candidate, this might not work for elections with obscure candidates or in small towns where the internet has not yet become a part of the process of getting candidate positions out there.
VariationsThis design might also be applied to some time and place where there was no actual election but one might be imagined hypothetically. (e.g., Russia in 1917.) This might also be used in a science or business class to to study initiatives and propositions on a ballot involving the environment, growth, or commerce.
