The Process

1. Spend a few minutes refreshing your memory about the Cognitive Domain of Bloom's Taxonomy.

2. Your instructor will divide you into groups of 4 and assign pairs to one of the following roles:

The Verbalist - You're going to focus on the verbs that describe tasks at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. By familiarizing yourself with this list, you'll be better able to identify where a given WebQuest falls on the continuum of higher level thinking skills called for.

The Complexitologist - You're going to look beyond the verbs at the complexity of the thinking called for by the tasks in each WebQuest. Walk through the presentation called Complexity Made Simple as preparation. Also available in QuickTime and PDF formats.

3. Each pair of you should look at the following five WebQuests from your single perspective. Write down the elements that support higher level thinking as seen from that perspective. Make notes that are sufficiently detailed that you can explain your position when you get together with the other pair in your group. Your instructor will keep track so that everyone will finish at the same time.

Time spent:

4. Now work with your group of four. Share your opinions about each WebQuest. Your task is to arrive at consensus that takes both perspectives into account. We'll then see if we have consensus across all groups in the room. We'll also gather your ideas on how the lowest-ranked WebQuests might be improved.
